Porch Light Visitors III

The day after photographing the brown widow last week, the web had been removed.  I was relieved that the venomous spider was gone, yet disappointed at the same time.  A spider – venomous or not – isn’t a threat to anyone unless provoked.  I was sure that if let be, it would live out his life without bothering any humans.

Tonight I looked around and found that the spider had survived the web cleaning.  And – surprise, surprise – there were a few men watching her!  Two tiny brown widows (Latrodectus geometricus) about 1/5 the size of the female sat near the gal inside the metal pipe I had found it by last week. Here’s a pick of one of the guys:

While photographing the spiders, I noticed something moving on the wall nearby: a house cricket! Gryllidae Acheta domesticus seemingly hopped out of the bushes to check out what I was doing at this ungodly hour of the night (2am) and was nice enough to stay still for a portrait:
