Disappearing Wings Magic Trick

This insect has a cool trick.  In a blink of an eye, it can retract its wings.  Actually, I don’t know if it was a “blink of an eye,” per say, nor do I know if it actually “retracted” the wings.  It most likely folded them in during the second or two between the two photos below.  This small beetle (1-2 mm) was feeding on the nectar of a daisy when I found it in the local botanical gardens today.    Anyone know what type of larva this is? The peeps over at BugGuide.Net helped to identify this as a sap-feeding beetle (Conotelus mexicanus).

Now you see them...

Now you see them...

...and now you don't

...and now you dont

Hey. One time I was watching a ladybird beetle flex its wings and wondered along the same lines: how do they fold and unfold so perfectly each time? I did a bit of looking around and found a text with interesting info on a rubbery protein called resilin that does the trick. The link to the research is in this post.
